Volunteer Requirements

Because NBN partners closely with community members of all ages, some volunteer roles require screening and training to ensure safety and success.

All Ongoing Volunteers:

  • Completed Volunteer Application

  • Conversation/Interview with NBN staff

  • Two personal or professional references

  • Background check (for certain roles)

  • Orientation & role-specific training

If your role involves driving on behalf of NBN:

  • Copy of Driver’s License

  • Proof of Current Automobile Insurance Liability

If your role involves youth or vulnerable populations:

  • Background check required

  • May require additional training

One-time and Group Service Projects (such as event setup, clean-ups, or resource drives) typically do not require screening or background checks.

Volunteer Training requirements vary by role. General orientation is provided to all volunteers, with program-specific training for areas such as the Health Disparities Collaborative, Resident Leaders Initiative, or Racial Equity workshops. Training sessions are offered on evenings and weekends to make participation accessible.
